Sharpen Your Saw And Face The Change

Abraham Lincoln rightly said, “Give me 6 hours to chop a tree and I will spend first 5 hours sharpening my axe”.

This saying is very much true and needed in present scenario too, where the only constant thing seen is change. Change and Innovation has become the new mantra in everyday life. Dynamics in Environment leads to instability in the organizations which bring in the innovations in the technology and raw materials used. This change process has to be dealt up by the Individuals, to help the organizations cope up with the change. Thus, it is the sole responsibility of the individuals to prepare themselves for the change process in all spheres of life may it be education, career or life as a whole.

This is very much important to students as they get ready for the challenges in career advancements in this ever changing work environment. But the question lies, “Can we do something about it in advance or just wait for the change to take place”?

It is wisely said that “In every problem lies an opportunity”, rising up to face the change is actually an opportunity to develop your own identity. Hence, there is a need to sharpen your saws for facing the Change as Alvin Toffler quoted, “The illiterate of 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.”

Being Proactive rather than Reactive to change will be proving more fruitful in achieving success. This essentially brings about a need for resharpening one’s vision, mission, goals, attitude and competencies which can be brought about by:

  • Redefining and setting smarter GOALS
  • Honing up the CURRENT COMPTENCIES in alignment to the current needs
  • Identifying areas of future individual GROWTH
  • Rediscovering HIDDEN STRENGTHS AND TALENTS i.e. Counting on one’s abilities
  • Focusing on the KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS for Efficient and Effective output
  • Revisiting and establishing CONTROL PROCESS at each and every step

“Our only security is our ability to change” said John Lilly and thus one should ensure to secure his/her future by utilizing change for one’s own innovation and growth.
